Visionary Art of Alisha Lee Jeffers

Artist Statement

My current work explores time and memory, and how the human experience can be mapped by its cycles. I draw on themes from traditional American and Celtic cultures that use the symbolism of crosses, wheels and mandalas to diagram my experiences.

I weave ojos or “Ojo de Dios” (God’s Eyes), in combination with dreamcatchers to symbolize the compass of my life. Making a tangible object like this allows me to meditate on what I am experiencing in the moment, fix that moment in time and travel back through memories that are triggered while making it. To me, it is truly the “God’s Eye” view.

With my recent commission paintings I am connecting with other spiritual healers to depict my translation of the spiritual experience. They share of what is meaningful to them in their work, and I am able to enter the experience, channel the energy and manifest what I see in a tangible medium. To me, art is part of a bigger conversation and I'm honored to participate this way.
